Can I get a meeting?: How did you get in here?

There is no need to tell you of what came before. You need only know that I am older than anyone you can imagine. I have seen empires rise and fall. I have watched the earth shift and move through the ages. I was there when the world was fresh and new, and I have watched it grow and flourish, and rot, and die.

I myself have fallen a few times throughout my long life. But I have always been restored. I have always pulled myself out of the mud and ashes and continued on. I suspect I have lost parts of myself along the way, but I know how to adapt. You cannot be an enemy of death and not know how to invoke your own evolution. To remain unchanged is to create a death of your own, the death of your soul.

That is why I search for newness. I desire novelty above all else. I have seen the same faces on a thousand heads, I have heard the same words come out of different mouths a hundred years apart. The world moves in cycles and rhymes, and after all this time I crave the precious grains of difference that emerge from every era.

Would you like me to tell you how special you are? I imagine it would be comforting to know that every person is unique in their own way. That is false. Almost every single human being is fundmentally exactly the same, and the differences between you are minimal. You are vermin. You gaze up at the immortals that have come before you and you grovel before us, because you are fools. And those of you that rebel are no more clever than those that conform, your role is essential to our design. We allow you to feel righteous in your words, so long as you walk the path we have laid out for you. And you do.

I have had many progeny. Beautiful and intelligent humans that amused me and delighted me and infuriated me. I have loved every progeny I have ever made, until I didn't. Inevitably they all bore me in the same way. When I no longer have use of them, I dispose of them. Oftentimes, they dispose of themselves. I'm sure there are more than a few living in the darkened corners of this city.

Time to go.
